Plotline — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 August 2026
Short version: Plotline stores everything on your own device. There is no Plotline server, no account, no analytics, and no advertising. Your data is never transmitted to us, because there is nowhere for it to go.

Who we are

Plotline ("the app") is an independently developed and maintained personal event tracker. Contact for any privacy question: hello@plotline.day.

What data the app handles

The app stores only the information you enter yourself, namely:

All of this is written to your device's local browser storage (IndexedDB and localStorage). It stays on the device unless you explicitly export it or enable Google Drive sync.

What we do not collect

Optional Google Drive sync

Google Drive sync is disabled by default. If you choose to turn it on, the app asks you to sign in with Google and requests the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file scope.

Plotline's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Exports and backups

The Export JSON, Export CSV, and safety-backup features write a file to a location you choose on your own device. Once exported, that file is entirely under your control and is no longer governed by this policy.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them. Since the app collects no personal information at all, there is nothing for us to receive or delete.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data lives only on your device, you control retention entirely. You can erase everything at any time using Menu → Wipe all local data, or by uninstalling the app or clearing its storage in your device settings. If you enabled Drive sync, delete the backup file from your Google Drive as well.

Security

The app is served over HTTPS, and Drive sync uses Google's standard OAuth 2.0 flow over encrypted connections. Local data is protected by your device's own security, so we recommend keeping a screen lock enabled.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date above.
